Chocolate Love Bites

If you love chocolate as much as I do, this simple and delicious recipe will not only save you money making your own but you’ll also get to control what goes in the chocolate. Which means your flavour options are endless!

 

Start by creating the base of the chocolate and add additional flavourings of choice for some variety.

 

What you need:

3/4 c coconut oil (or cacao butter or combo of both – I like using both)

1 c  cacao powder (raw chocolate)

1 – 4 Tbsp honey or maple syrup

pinch of salt (Himalayan or sea salt)

1/4 tsp vanilla (optional)

 

 

Add on options:

finely chopped nuts of choice – think hazelnuts, almonds, pecans, peanuts, etc

dried fruit, like goji berries, cranberries, shredded coconut, orange zest, etc

 

 

What you do:

To make your  own chocolate, I find it’s best to use a double boiler or a metal mixing bowl floating in a pot of simmering hot water.  Boil the water in a pot, turn the water down the heat from a boil to a gentle simmer to avoid burning the chocolate

  • Melt coconut oil and/or cacao butter in the double broiler or on the stove top in a mixing bowl on top of a pot of simmering hot water
  • Once melted, add cacao powder and maple syrup and stir until combined
  • Once chocolate is a smooth texture, add the remaining ingredients or any other nuts, seeds or fruit that you love until incorporated well
  • Scoop about 1 tablespoon of the chocolate mixture and place into a mini muffin tin, chocolate mold or ice cube tray. Continue filling each of the openings with chocolate and place the tin in the freezer for about 30 minutes or until chilled and firm.  Once the chocolate is firm, turn the tin upside down to remove your homemade chocolates. Feel free to use any other mold to create shapes that you desire. Ice cube trays work well too
